St. Martin of Tours was established as a parish in 1894. At the time its church in Drayton was already constructed and had been serving as a mission for another parish.
Until 2016, three church communities made up the parish, the other two being the mission churches in Palmerston and Harriston. In that year, the communities in Palmerston and Harriston were re-assigned to St. John the Evangelist Parish (Arthur) and St. Mary of the Purification (Mount Forest) respectively.
Though its size has reduced, St. Martin of Tours continues to be its own parish. Its church continues to be the setting of many of the most important moments in the life of a Christian, such as baptisms and funerals. It also has its own Catholic Women’s League council.
The parish now shares a priest and various other resources with St. Mary Immaculate Parish of Elora. The two parishes maintain separate finances, though the sharing of certain costs has been helpful to the smaller St. Martin of Tours Parish. The two parishes share the same bulletin, just as they share this website.
The church is well known for its annual chicken barbecue, which is hosted in its hall (which can also be rented for social functions).
Through the One Heart, One Soul capital campaign, the inside of the church was recently beautified with new paint and flooring.
On Sunday, the Holy Eucharist is celebrated in Drayton at 9:00 a.m. Confessions are heard beforehand from 8:30 until 8:45 a.m.
